You've invested in a professional ceramic coating — now the question is how to keep it performing at its best for years to come. The good news: maintaining a ceramic coating is far easier than maintaining uncoated paint. But there are a few key rules to follow.
The First 30 Days Are Critical
After your ceramic coating is applied and cured, the first 30 days are the most important. During this period, avoid washing the vehicle, exposing it to rain for extended periods, or parking under trees. The coating needs time to fully cure and harden. We'll give you specific instructions when you pick up your vehicle.
Use the Right Wash Method
The biggest threat to a ceramic coating isn't the environment — it's improper washing. Automated car washes with brushes create micro-scratches that dull the coating over time. Always use a touchless wash or hand wash with a proper wash mitt and two-bucket method.
Use a pH-neutral car shampoo. Avoid dish soap or household cleaners — they strip the coating's hydrophobic properties. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean microfiber towel or blower.
Address Contaminants Quickly
Bird droppings, tree sap, and bug splatter are acidic and can etch through a ceramic coating if left too long. Remove them as soon as possible with a quick detailer spray and a clean microfiber cloth. Don't let them bake in the sun.
Annual Maintenance Coating
Every 12 months, we recommend a maintenance coating application — a lighter ceramic layer applied over the existing coating to refresh its hydrophobic properties and extend its life. This is a quick service that dramatically extends the performance of your original coating.
What to Avoid
Avoid automatic car washes with brushes. Avoid waxing over a ceramic coating — it's unnecessary and can interfere with the coating's performance. Avoid abrasive polishes unless you're working with a professional who knows how to work with coated surfaces.
Signs Your Coating Needs Attention
If water stops beading and sheeting off the surface as dramatically as it once did, it's time for a maintenance coating. If you notice light swirl marks or reduced gloss, a light polish and maintenance coating can restore performance.
